We'll be honest, Cashiers takes approximately zero effort to enjoy. But a little planning goes a long way when it comes to dinner reservations, rainy afternoons, and not getting lost on a mountain road at dusk. Here's what we'd tell a good friend...

When to visit
Honestly? Any time.
Cashiers is a four-season destination, which is a rare thing. Each one has a personality. Here's a quick cheat sheet.
Peak season. Highs in the low 70s when Atlanta is melting at 95. Waterfalls are full, Silver Run Falls is perfect for swimming, and Groovin' on the Green is running every weekend. Book restaurants and activities early
June - August
The locals' favorite. Foliage peaks mid-October and it's genuinely jaw-dropping at 3,500 feet. The Shadow of the Bear phenomenon appears on clear days in late October: a bear-shaped shadow cast off Whiteside Mountain into the valley below. One of the most unique natural events in the Southeast.
September - November
The secret season. Fewer people, and a fireplace that finally earns its keep. Sapphire Ski Area opens for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. The waterfalls occasionally freeze into dramatic ice formations. The Shadow of the Bear makes a second appearance mid-February.
December - February
Wildflowers, waterfalls running high from snowmelt, and trails that haven't seen summer crowds yet. The best time for fly fishing, hatches of mayflies and caddis bring big trout to the surface on the Tuckasegee. Rhododendron blooms in late May are spectacular.
March - May

Frequently asked questions
It's raining. What do we do?
First... relax, it passes fast. Mountain storms roll through in an hour or two. In the meantime: duck into Duck Hawk Provisions for coffee and a bocce game, grab a long lunch at Cornucopia on the covered porch, browse the boutiques around the Village Green, or simply stay in the cabin and take a pick from our selection of local favorite books. That last option is more popular than you'd think.
Can I fly fish near the property?
Yes. Silver Run Creek runs nearby and the Tuckasegee River, one of the best trout fisheries in the eastern US, is about 20 minutes away. Brookings Anglers in town is the local outfitter and they rent gear, run guided trips, and know every inch of the water around here.
Is it kid-friendly?
Very. Silver Run Falls has a shallow swimming hole that kids love. The Village Green has space to run around. Panthertown Valley has easy trails. And Crossroads Custard has 24 flavors of custard, which settles most arguments.
Can we book out all of the cottages?
Yes! Enjoy the entire compound with five brand-new cottages, each featuring 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, fully furnished for a comfortable stay. Relax by the outdoor fire pit, perfect for cozy evenings under the stars. Ideal for family reunions, wedding parties, and group retreats, this private getaway offers space, comfort, and a beautiful natural setting for unforgettable memories.
